Uber driver stabs a retired policeman for objecting to reckless driving

New Delhi, September 11
An Uber cab driver allegedly stabbed a retired police officer who objected to his 'reckless driving' and suggestions to adjust his side-view mirror.
The incident took place with a retired sub-inspector 61-year-old Jitender Rana, who
was travelling in the accused's cab on September 6. Rana was travelling in the cab with his wife and daughter.
The accused was Raj Kumar, the cab driver with Uber in Delhi.
The Hauz Khas police station had received a PCR call where the police were alerted about the incident. Rana asked the driver to change the position of his side-view mirror which allegedly led to a spat between the two.
According to the police, Rana booked a cab from Rajouri Garden. He complained to police that the driver was reckless and was almost going to hit a roadside vendor and a motorcyclist. When the cab reached Nehru Place, he started driving even more recklessly.
When the spat turned more serious, he asked the policeman and his family to get out of the cab. He then suddenly attacked Rana with a knife. When his family frightened with the incident raised an alarm, some locals intervened and snatched his knife.
A PCR team rushed to the spot while Rana was rushed to AIIMS Hospital. He sustained stab wounds to his abdomen, but his condition is stable.
The police have registered a case of attempt to murder has been registered against the cab driver at the Hauz Khas police station following which he was held from Nangloi.
Uber services in a statement condemned the incident and expressed support to police in all the proceedings.
