New Delhi, April 1
Senior IPS officer Dr Raj Kumar Vishwakarma has been appointed as the new part time Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh as incumbent DS Chauhan retired.
Notably, the announcement comes just two months ahead of Vishwakarma’s retirement, which was slated to take place in May 2023.
The 1988 batch IPS officer, DS Chauhan has been made the acting DGP of UP after Mukul Goel who was transferred out of the post.
Chauhan, who was holding the additional charge of DGP for the last 11 months, retired on March 31.
Hailing from Jaunpur, Vishwakarma is the second senior-most IPS officer after Mukul Goel. Vishwakarma is set to retire in May this year.
He was holding the charge of Inspector General (Law and order) of Uttar Pradesh during the 2013 riots in Muzaffarnagar district.
Four other officers of the 1988 batch were in the race for the post of the DGP.
Among these, Vijay Kumar's retirement is in January 2024, Anand Kumar will retire in April 2024, Anil Kumar Agarwal is currently on central deputation and will retire in April while Vishwakarma retires in May 2023.
The state government has given additional charge of crime and Economic Offence Wing (EOW) to Special Director General (law and order) Prashant Kumar.
