Senior IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahu has become the new Director General of Police in Rajasthan in the new government.
Sahu was promoted to the rank of DGP in June and posted as Director General and Commandant General, Home Guards, Rajasthan.
The order passed by the Rajasthan Government read that DGP Sahu will hold the charge of the post of Director General of Police, Rajasthan, Jaipur, in addition to his duties until further orders. He has been DG (Director General) of Home Guard for three and a half years.
Sahu is a 1988 batch IPS officer, originally from Odisha.
Mishra had taken charge of DGP on 3 November 2022.
Mishra hails from Kushinagar, UP. After being in Intelligence for four years, he was made the Director General of Rajasthan Police on 27 October, 2022.
He was made DGP by by passing two senior IPS officers in Rajasthan Police.
However, Sahu is due to retire in June 2024. He must fulfill a 6-month service period to become DGP.
The Central Govt needs to submit a 3-name panel before Dec 31st. Umesh Mishra’s voluntary retirement aids in this process.
The state govt has already submitted the panel, with Sahu’s name at the top. Despite his impending retirement, Sahu is expected to serve 2 additional years as DGP, following the precedent set by ML Lather’s extended tenure in the role.
