In the run up to Republic Day, Home Minister Amit Shah on January 3 conducted a high-level security review in New Delhi on the threat of terrorism and the emerging security challenges. He called for better coordination and synergy among Central and State security agencies to thwart the challenge posed by terrorists.
The apex security establishment, including heads of Central Intelligence agencies, intelligence wings of the armed forces, Revenue and Financial Intelligence agencies and Central Armed Police Forces attended the meeting. Directors-General of States and Union Territories attended the meeting through video conferencing.
“Highlighting the continued threats of terrorism and global terror groups, terror financing, narco-terrorism, organised crime-terror nexus, illicit use of cyber space, movement of foreign terrorist fighters, etc., the Union Home Minister stressed upon the need for better coordination and synergy among the Central and State security agencies in countering the ever-changing CT and security challenges,” a press statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs elaborated.
Security agencies across the country are in a state of high alert ahead of Republic Day to thwart terrorist and subversive groups, which have in the past attempted to stage desperate attacks timed alongside high-profile events for maximum impact.
