Centre awards Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal to four special ops this year

New Delhi, October 31

The Centre awarded “Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal” for four Special Operations conducted this year by state police forces and paramilitary forces. 

The award shall be conferred for Special Operation in the areas such as counter terrorism, border action, arms control, prevention of narcotics smuggling and rescue operations. 

It is announced on 31st of October every year. In a year, normally 3 Special Operations are considered for the award and in extra ordinary circumstances, the award may be given up to 5 Special Operations to encourage State/UT Police.

This year the awards have been given to Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), State Police force in Andhra Pradesh Police, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. 

IPS officers who received this prestigious award include-former DG CPPF now DG Manipur Rajiv Singh, IG CRPF Amit Kumar, NIA officers- DIG Santosh Rastogi, KB Vandana and Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar and NCB DDG Gyaneshwar Singh. 

The IPS officers who received the award from state police include:- IGP Vineet Brij Lal and SP Babuji Attada from Andhra Pradesh, DIGP Deepan Bhadran from Gujarat, ADGP Sanya Latkar and IGP Homkar Vinukant, IGP Rahkumar Lakra and DIGP Anoop Birthare, SP Shivani Tiwari and SP Anjani Anjan from Jharkhand. 

ADGP Adarsh Katiyar, IGP Dr. Ashish from Madhya Pradesh and IGP Rajesh Kumar from Telangana. 

51 officials from CRPF received this prestigious award while nine from NIA and 14 from NCB. 

12 from Andhra Pradesh, 5 from Assam, 20 from Gujarat, 16 from Jharkhand, 21 from MP, 19 from Tamil Nadu, 22 from Telangana, 10 from West Bengal, two from Tripura and three from Uttarakhand Police won the medal. 

The medal was constituted in 2018 with the objective to recognize those operations, which have high degree of planning, high significance for the security of the country/State/UT and have significant impact on the security of larger sections of the society.
