The Delhi Police West District arrested one duped Covid 19 patients with assurance of oxygen cylinders.
The accused was identified as Aman (21) from Gokulpuri.
DCP (West) Urvija Goel stated the cyber fraud Aman had specially borrowed a number from his friend from Begumpur to commit frauds. The bank account however belongs to a resident of Mira Bhayender in Maharashtra.
The police stated on May 4, they had received a complaint at Vikaspuri police station that the complainant was in extreme need of an oxygen cylinder for his 87 year old grandfather who was suffering from Covid-19. He found one mobile number on social media who was providing oxygen cylinders. He contacted on the given mobile number where the accused asked him to pay Rs. 20,000/- as 40% advance money for 2 cylinders of 25 Kg for Rs. 32,000/-. The complainant made payment of Rs. 20,000/- in the bank account of accused. Accused assured the complainant that the cylinder would reach his home by 7 AM. However, no oxygen cylinder ever reached and his grandfather passed away in the absence of oxygen support.
The police further said that the complainant tried to contact the accused and made several calls on the given mobile phone but to no avail as the accused had blocked the phone number of complainant.
The police began tracing the number and during investigation, the mobile number was found to be registered in the name of Aman from Gagan Vihar, Gokul Puri.
With the help of technical assistance, a raid was conducted at the address and accused Aman Kumar was apprehended. He disclosed that he used the mobile number in question till few days ago as the SIM card was later lost. He got the SIM card blocked, officials added.
However, he was put to sustained interrogation upon which, he revealed that the SIM card in question was in possession of his friend from Begampur since February for the purpose of committing fraud and cheating activities.
The police raided the house of his friend, but he was not found there. The statement of respective bank account was obtained and found to be running in the name of a resident of East Opp. STT Homas Church, Mira-Bhayander Thane, Maharashtra.
During the course of investigation it has been revealed that the father of the friend of accused resides at Mumbai.
The police have taken Aman under remand custody for a day.
The police are raiding and searching all the suspected hideouts both at the instance of accused Aman as well as with the help of technical surveillance and informer network.
