Delhi Police constable dies after being hit by a car while on duty

New Delhi, May 1

Delhi police constable was hit hy a car that rammed into picket checking near Vasant Vihar police station in wee hours of Saturday leading to the death of the constable while he was on duty.

The deceased constable Munshi Lal (57) was doing his regular picket duty at al- Kauser picket. The constable was dragged on the road for 30 to 40 meters during the accident. 

Munshi Lal was an ex-serviceman and posted at Vasant Vihar police station.

The police said on the site of the accident, it was it was found that the vehicle a white Honda CRV, DL-4CAH 6927 had badly damaged the police picket, tent that was erected for staff to implement covid lockdown and motorcycle of constable Munshi Lal and also dragged him for about 30-40 meters. 

The police had rushed the injured Constable Munshi Lal was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Center where he succumbed

The police arrested car driver Samit Yadav (42) from the spot. He is a resident of Mnirka and works in IT sector. He was returning from Max Hospital Gurugram after attending to his wife who is COVID patient admitted there. 

The police have booked him under various sections of tbe Indian Penal Code..

The Delhi Police has announced Rs..one crore death benefits assistance from Delhi Police which was started under Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava's intiative to pay Rs. one crore to deceased policemen who dies on line of duty. 

His family will receive Rs. seven lakhs from Delhi Police Welfare Society, Rs.15 Lakh from Delhi Police Martyr's Fund and Rs. Rs 78 lakh accidental death insurance benefits from Axis Bank by virtue of an MoU done by Delhi Police with Axis Bank from January this year.

He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters who are married.
