Delhi Police have been cracking down heavily on blackmarketing of life saving drugs, hoarding of oxygen cylinders, concentrators and sellers of fake medicines during the second wave of the pandemic.
In the first case, Mohan Garden of Dwarka District arrested a fraudster after a brief chase from Dera Baasi, SAS Nagar in Punjab.
The accused was identified as Ran Vijay Singh from Noor Nagar Colony in Ghaziabad.
The police stated he who used to target the needy persons, running from pillar to post to arrange oxygen cylinders in this pandemic situation. Taking advantage of the same, the accused start sending messages to the needy persons with the assurance to arrange oxygen cylinders in no time. The accused used to take the desired person in confidence and share his UPID and account details to remit money in his account. Believing on the assurances of the accused person, the victim used to transfer money in his respective bank account. Once the money is remitted in his account the accused used to switch off his mobile phone and block the victim's phone.
The police officials added that the accused cheated Ridhi Verma from Nawada Housing Complex who was in need of an oxygen cylinder for her ailing father affected from Covid-19. She was contacted by the accused with the assurances to provide a 15 kg cylinder worth Rs 15000/- with the condition to remit the same in his account. The accused after getting the money blocked her and neither the cylinder as desired and nor the money was taken in lieu of the same was returned.
During the course of investigation the bank details of the complainant was obtained and the details of the Account number of accused was traced to FINO payment bank located at Ghaziabad, UP. The bank authorities were asked to freeze the account and KYC was obtained from Bank and name and address of the accused was found.
The team analyzed the CDR and zeroed on the present whereabouts of the accused but the accused immediately vacated his house from Ghaziabad and shifted to Chandigarh on the night of May 4, as he came to know that police is after him. However, the CCTV footage of the locality was analyzed and registration no of Tata 407, who ferry the household items of Ranvijay from Ghaziabad to Chandigarh was traced. The driver of the tempo was taken in confidence and the team departed for Dera Bassi, Sas Nagar Punjab to raid the house of the accused Ranvijay.
On the instance and identification of the driver, the team got successful in arresting the accused Ran Vijay from rented premises taken two days before from Dera Bassi, Sas Nagar, Punjab in association with the local police.
The police seized cash of Rs 27,500 /- has from the possession of the accused person as cheated money withdrawn by him from his alleged Account.
The details of 10 victims with whom the accused has cheated with the modus operandi have been obtained from his bank details. Efforts are made to contact them and to get complaints from such victims who were cheated by the accused on the pretext of providing oxygen cylinders in this pandemic situation is being carried out.
In thevsecond case, West District police busted a gang involved in blackmarketing of imported oxygen cylinders.
The police seized 19 Oxygen concentrator worth Rs. 25 lakhs from the accused
The accused were identified as Bharat Agarwal from Janakpuri, Ishant Gosain from Pitampura and Ranbir Singh from Rohini.
The police stated that an information was received that a person namely Bharat Agrawal, is selling Oxygen Concentrators on very high prices and also have illegal storage of such life saving machine.
The team immediately laid a trap near parking of District Center, Janakpuri and with the help of a decoy customer, three accused persons namely Bharat Agrawal, Ishant Gosai and Ranbir Singh have been apprehended with total 19 oxygen concentrators, which were being sold in Rs. 1,30,000/- but the market value of per piece is about Rs. 30 to 50 thousand, officials added.
In the third case, one arrested for blackmarketing and overcharging of oxygen cylinders.
The Subhash place police had received information regarding the over-charging of oxygen cylinders used for covid positive patients.
The police laid down a trap and a person namely, Abdul Tahir Ali from Shakurpur was found to be indulged in malpractice of overcharging of oxygen cylinders used for covid positive patients. He was found selling one empty oxygen cylinder of 10 kg in Rs. 15,000/-.
The police deployed a decoy customer from whom an advance payment of Rs 2000 received and the four notes of Rs.500/- were recovered from his possession.
Three empty oxygen cylinders (10Kg each) were recovered from his possession.
The police are now tracking down his associates and the source of the oxygen cylinders.
The accused have been booked under sections 420, 188 of the Indian Penal Code and 3 Epidemic Disease Act.
