Delhi Police North District busted a racket of blackmarketing of oxygen flow meters

New Delhi, May 12

The Delhi Police North District busted a racket of blackmarketing of oxygen flow meters. 36 oxygen flow meters were recovered from the accused.

The accused were identified as Karanjeet  Singh and Bhanu alias Sahil, both from Burari and Arjun Gupta from Roshanara. 

The police had received information that one person is selling oxygen flow meters for Rs 5,000/- per piece at Burari. The police conducted a discreet enquiry, recce of the area, and  deployed sources to bust the racket. 

DCP (North) Anto Alphonse stated that ASI Yashpal Singh of Special Staff posed himself as a customer and requested the alleged to provide oxygen flow meter urgently. The accused agreed but kept on dodging and finally he agreed to meet at petrol Pump, opposite Transport Authority Burari, Delhi. 

The officials said that a strategic trap was laid and 32 oxygen flow meters were recovered from their possession along with a motorcycle, being used in commission of crime.

According to police, they tried to mislead the sleuths, but on sustained interrogation, they accepted that there is acute shortage and heavy requirement of oxygen Flow meters in the market due to COVID-19.  They planned to sell oxygen Flow meters at a price of Rs 5,000/- per piece. They further disclosed that they purchased the said equipment from Shafiq from Meerut in UP.

Another accused Arun Gupta from Roshanara Road was arrested from Shastri Nagar Metro Station, Delhi and four oxygen flow meters and one Scooty recovered from his possession. Arun Gupta disclosed that he is pursuing Bachelor of Architecture from a reputed institute and came in contact with Karanjeet Singh on social media and started supplying oxygen flow meter on high price to needy people to fulfil his greed of money. 

The accused have been booked under sections 420, 269,188, 120B, 34 of the IPC and 3 Epidemic Disease Act. 

The police have now geared up to trace the main supplier.
