Delhi police Shahdara District busted fake RTPCR report scam, arrest three lab technicians

New Delhi, May 18

The Delhi police Shahdara District busted fake RTPCR report scam and arrested three persons who used to allegedly produce fake RTPCR reports.

The accused were identified as Jitender Sahu from Uttam Nagar Delhi. He is intermediate and is working in the Dr. Lal Chandani lab for the last six months, Sunil Kumar fr Dwarka Sector 13 who is perusing graduation and has been working in the lab for the last one year and Sunny Singh from Uttam Nagar and joined only last month.

The Shahdara police had received a complaint that some persons have been making fake reports. During the enquiry, it came to notice that on April 21, complainant Umang Gogia from East Gorakh Park, complained to police that he called a person for the collection of sample for COVID-19 from his house for him and his family members since his mother was positive already.

The police stated that thereafter a person reached his house and had taken six covid samples of his family members for which he paid Rs. 9000/- in cash to him. However @ Rs. 15,00/- per sample/person. Even after passing of four days, he did not any COVID test report. Hence he again contacted the person who collected the sample and he assured to provide the report in a day or two. Thereafter, the complainant received his negative report on 28.04.2021 on his whats app.
While pursuing the reports, he got suspicious since date of collection of the sample was mentioned wrong. and verified the same from the lab (Dr Lal Chandani Lab, Punjabi Bagh, Delhi). On verification, the report was found to be fake, officials added. 

During the investigation subscription detail of the mobile number was collected and local intelligence was developed by the team and identified one person namely Sunny who came to collect the sample and apprehended him. Thereafter his instance another co-accused namely Jitendra was arrested.

According to police, Sunny Singh disclosed that he used to collect covid samples for Dr. Lal Chandani Lab. On April 21, his associate Jitender asked him to visit the complainant’s house for the collection of sample. He reached there and collected covid -19 samples of six family persons of the complainant at the rate of Rs. 1500 per person/sample on behalf of Dr Lal Chandaani Labs Ltd, Punjabi Bagh, Delhi and received Rs. 9000/-. After that instead of properly depositing these samples and received the amount in Lab, accused Sunny transferred to his associates Jitender Rs. 5700/- through Paytm. When the complainant demanded copies of the report, accused Jitender Sahu has created a fake covid –19 negative test report and sent it to Sunny who further provided the same to complainant Umang Gogia. When the complainant checked the reports, he found that there was a discrepancy in the date of sample collection in the test report so he approached Dr. Lal Chandani Lab and he came to know that the test report was not generated by them and reports were found fake.

The police added that Jitender Sahu confessed that he got the call directly from the complainant and sent his associate Sunny for sample collection. He further confessed that he has received the amount from Sunny and generated these fake RTPCR negative reports from his laptop. He also confessed that he used to pay Rs. 100-150/- per sample to Sunil for fake bills.

The police further said that Sunil, who used to sit on the billing counter of the lab, disclosed that he in connivance with the accused Jitender had generated many such fake bills and he used to get Rs 100 to 150 per sample on those bills.

All three accused further confessed that they had also cheated other people by the same way at Dwarka and Naraina area. The police are now trying to trace other victims who were cheated by the accused.
The police seized fake bills, mobiles and laptops used to produce fake reports.
