Delhi Police South East District held one for overcharging ambulance service

Delhi Police South East District held one for overcharging ambulance service for ferrying Covid patient.

The accused was identified as Pramod Kumar Singh (30) from UP who works as an ambulance driver.

DCP South East RP Meena stated that the police formed a special team and laid a trap through decoy customer and arrested the ambulance driver red handed overcharging for ambulance service. 

The police stated that complainant Irshad filed a complaint at Sarita Vihar police station he has to shift his Covid positive relative from Apollo hospital to Holy family hospital. The ambulance driver was overcharging and demanded Rs.8500/- to shift the patient within a distance of two kilometers. The contact number 9875xxxxxx of the driver was provided by the complainant. 

The police filed a case under as Section  384 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.

The police laid a trap and sent a decoy client who made one call was made for providing ambulance service from Jasola Apollo hospital to Holy Family hospital.

After reaching the Apollo hospital, the decoy customer contacted the ambulance driver to shift his patient. The ambulance driver demanded Rs. 9500/- to shift the patient within a range of five kilometers. After bargaining, he agreed for Rs. 8500/-. The decoy customer provided him Rs. 8500/-cash. The police arrested him red handed accepting the sum. 

The police added during the raid, one ambulance was seized that was recovered from his possession. The accused driver disclosed that he wants to earn quick money in the second wave of pandemic so he started over charging form the needy peoples who were ready to shift their patients at any cost.
