Delhi Police South East District held one from UP for cheating persons in lieu of providing Remdesivir injections.
The accussed was identified as Sudhir Kumar Yadav from Sitapur in UP.
The police stated that on May 3, the complainant Pooja Gupta registered a complaint stating that on April 29, her sister in law was Covid positive and her condition was critical. She was admitted in the hospital and there was an urgent need of Remdesivir injection for her treatment.
The police added that through whatsapp group complainant found the number of one person through whatsapp who assured her to provide 6 Remdesivir injections for Rs.9000 each and demanded Rs 20,000 advance for the same and the remaining 34000 were to be paid after delivery.
The complainant who was in urgent need, transferred the amount of Rs 20,000 on May 1, through account transfer in the account number provided by the accused. The accused gave the number of his co-accused and told the complainant that he will deliver the injection to him.
This delivery boy on contacting told his name as Sunny and kept engaging the complainant for two days by stating that he has been stuck in Etawah and will come soon to deliver the injection. After that both switched their phone off and thus cheated the complainant. The police registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC at Kalkaji police station.
The police started teaching down numbers provided by the complainant. The ownership of the phone number of the main accused was found in Lucknow. However, the address proof of the phone number of the delivery boy was found in Haridwar. But through one alternate number given in the ID, police traced the location of the delivery boy in Sitapur, U.P. The team raided at the given location in Sitapur and apprehended Him
On enquiry, the accused revealed his identified as Sudhir Yadav and subsequently arrested, police added.
According to police, he used to work as labour on daily wages with his co-accused in Lucknow before lockdown. Due to lockdown he lost his job and his co-accused allured him to indulge in fraud during Covid pandemic. He obtained one SIM on another person’s ID and started talking with the customers who were in urgent need of Remdesivir injection by his pseudo name Sunny on the instance of his co-accused to cheat them of their hard earned money. The police are fearing up to nab the co-accused.
