Delhi Police West Districts gets cyber police station in Hari Nagar

New Delhi, May 27

Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana inaugurated the Cyber Police Station in West District in the premises of Hari Nagar police station.

The West district also initiated two public outreach initiatives  “Ashirwaad” and “Smart Elder” which were also introduced on the occasion. These initiatives aim to impart basic security awareness and orientation to Senior Citizens about using Social Media to sensitize them about new trends of Cyber Crime and measures to prevent them, officials said.

Speaking on the occasion the CP Delhi highlighted that cyber crime will be more dangerous than conventional crime and due caution and awareness is required to tackle this unique form of crime. Special police stations are being established in each district so that victims/targets can approach trained personnel for expeditious investigation.

He added, "As the volume of this crime is more and even well educated and informed persons fall prey, increased awareness and restrictions are also recommended on social media platforms".

He also encouraged the victims to not hesitate and confide in parents and police, if they feel bullied or trapped.

The establishment of Clcreche is a welfare gesture for working women staff of Delhi Police.  The Police-Public Library is a community policing platform for students from local community to gel with police personnel and their wards while preparing for studies, officials added.

“Ashirwaad” project has been conceptualized to provide an emergency response system to senior citizens living alone.  The senior citizens have been provided with information i.e. – Contact number of concerned SHO, beat officer, elderly helpline, Delhi Police Helpline,  cyber helpline to seek immediate help from appropriate authorities in emergency situations.  “Ashirwaad” will not only empower our senior citizens, but would also reinforce sense of contentment and security among them.

The project “Smart Elder” is an exceptional step towards making our elder tech-savvy. Senior citizens of the district will be given a crash course of two days on Digital Literacy and Cyber awareness and educate them about Delhi Police applications, Social Media applications, Online Shopping applications, Taxi booking applications and other useful Apps.

To ensure safety and security of senior citizens this course also incorporated cyber crime awareness session, which was attended by the hundreds of senior citizens.
