MHA gets Rs 12,840 crores in the Union Budget for 2025-26

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been allocated Rs 12,840 crores in the Union Budget for 2025-26.
The Union Ministry has received an allocation of Rs 2,33,211 crore, 5.8 per cent up from the revised estimate of Rs 2,20,371 crore for 2024-25.
The largest portion of the ministry’s budget allocation has been directed towards border infrastructure and management, which saw an 82.3% increase from Rs 2,794.57 crore to Rs 5,237.93 crore. This funding aims to improve infrastructure at checkposts along the international border and enhance surveillance capabilities. Of this amount, Rs 359.32 crore is earmarked for maintenance and border checkposts.
The central armed police forces (CAPF) received a budget of Rs 1,09,037.05 crore, up from Rs 1,05,647.19 crore in the revised estimate for 2024-25. This funding aims to enhance infrastructure, procure sophisticated weapons and improve training.
This provision meets the administrative expenditures of the CAPFs, including CRPF, BSF, NSG, ITBP, CISF, SSB, Assam Rifles and departmental accounting organisations associated with these forces. The provision under the Capital Section is intended for the procurement of machinery, equipment and motor vehicles.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been allocated Rs 11,931 crore, compared with Rs 11,467.62 crore in the previous budget. Delhi Police received an increase from Rs 11,467.62 crore to Rs 11,931.66 crore. The budget for police infrastructure has risen from Rs 1,986.28 crore to Rs 4,379.20 crore.

Additionally, investment in forensic and cybercrime prevention has significantly increased, with Rs 500 crore earmarked for the modernisation of forensic capabilities, up from Rs 150 crore last year.
The budget for the National Intelligence Grid has been reduced from Rs 247.72 crore to Rs 158.23 crore and the budget for the Intelligence Bureau has decreased from Rs 3,996.21 crore to Rs 3,893.35 crore. The budget for the 3,000-strong Special Protection Group, which provides security for the prime minister, has also been cut from Rs 510.97 crore to Rs 489 crore in this budget.
