UP Police gets 171% hike this year in state budget for infrastructure, modernization and development

The Uttar Pradesh Government hiked the allocation for the police department by 171% this year to Rs 40,868.83 crore, while there was a 24% increase previous year.
Director General of Police Prashant Kumar said the increased allocation would strengthen the police force.
The statement issued by UP Police mentioned that the budget includes a Rs 200 crore corpus fund for the maintenance of over 200 multi-story police residential and office buildings, including provisions for lifts, generators, STP, and WTP.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath had announced uniform allowance, separation allowance, corpus fund provisions, and rectification of discrepancies in benefits for martyred personnel.
Additionally, a 1,428% increase in the sports fund will enhance physical fitness and competitive spirit among police personnel, officials said.
DGP Kumar further stated that considering new recruitments, the establishment budget has also been increased, and travel allowances have seen a hike, with Rs 1,000 crore allocated for the same, providing relief to police personnel.
The budget for materials and supplies has been increased by 12,519%, streamlining procurement processes. This will facilitate the acquisition of bulletproof jackets, bulletproof helmets, and anti-riot gear.
The Police Department has been allocated a dedicated budget for solar energy adoption. Additionally, police units are adopting RESCO model tariff purchase agreements, widely practiced in various sectors, to promote green and clean energy within the police force.
