DGCA officer, wife die by suicide hours apart in Defence Colony area of South Delh

New Delhi, March 2

Senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officer and his wife allegedly died by suicide at their home in Defence Colony area of South Delhi.

The deceased were identified as Ajay Pal Singh (37) and Monika (32) residents of Hudco Place in South Delhi. Singh worked as an operations manager at the DGCA after recently quitting the Indian Air Force. 

The couple had recently got married in November 2022 and within four months of their wedding, the duo are dead that has left their family and friends shocked. 

The police said Ajay first died by suicide on March 1 afternoon. Monika found her husband lying unconscious in the house after a suicide attempt. She rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead. 

The police added that Monika returned home and locked her house and attempted suicide. 

The police learnt about her suicide after they received a PCR call around 3.50 am and broke the door to rescue her. She was also taken to the hospital but was declared dead.

DCP South Chandan Chowdhary stated that the reasons behind the couple taking an extreme step are being investigated upon. However, no suicide notes were found at the spot. 

The police sent the bodies to the AIIMS mortuary and called up the relatives of the deceased for questioning.
