Massive fire at hutments in Noida 63 after a cylinder blast

New Delhi, April 11

Over 1600 hutments in Bahololpur were gutted in fire at Sector 63 Noida following a cylinder blast at one of the hutments.

The impact of the fire was huge and over 500 hutments were charred before the fire and emergency services could reach the spot.

These hutments are spread over a 20 acres of land in Bahololpur where the victims had constructed hutments in illegal manner. Most of the families are ragpickers, sold waste items and hawkers for small goods. Many victims are suspected to be trapped inside the huts which are still on fire. 

Over 6000 people stay in nearly 1600 hutments on this land. Most of the families have lost their homes to fire who are now sitting on the roads waiting for help to arrive.

The Noida Police Commissionerate deployed policemen from Phase III police station at the spot. The fire and rescue services is still on. 

DCP (Central) Noida said, "The dead bodies of two kids were found at the spot. So far 50 hutments were found to have caught fire. The fire spread extensively due to high speed of the wind. The rescue operations are on and all policemen have been deployed here at the spot for the work".
