Tamil Nadu police arrests sixth accused in BJP functionary's murder after exchange of fire

The Tamil Nadu police arrested an accused after an exchange of fire during questioning related to the murder of a BJP functionary in Tamil Nadu

Selva Kumar (52), the Cooperative Wing Secretary of the BJP, was hacked to death on on July 27 when he was travelling to his home in M Vilankulam on his motorcycle.

The suspect has been identified as P Vasanth Kumar, was one of the five suspects detained by Sivaganga Police in connection with the brutal murder of Selvakumar, district secretary of the Cooperative Wing of the BJP, on the night of July 27.

The police said that the incident took place when Vasanth Kumar tried to attack a sub-constable during interrogation and attempted to flee the spot. However, police said, he was shot in the leg and arrested later.

Both the murder suspect and the police official who sustained injuries were admitted to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Sivaganga police have formed eight special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.

The motive behind the murder has been ascertained to be personal issues
