Two undertrials facing murder charges shot at in UP court

New Delhi, May 18

Two undertrials in a murder case suffered bullet injuries when the younger brother of the man they had allegedly killed and were being tried for opened fire at them on their way to a Jaunpur court in police escort.

The assailant fired four rounds at the undertrials leading to a chaos in the court premises.

The police stated that the incident took place when undertrials Mithlesh Giri and Surya Pratap Rai were being taken to the court in a police escort from the Jaunpur district jail where they had been locked since their arrest in 2022.

The police said advocates caught the assailant, beat him up and then handed him over to police. The police teams shifted Mithilesh, Surya Pratap and injured constable Anand Prakash and Shrawan Kumar to the hospital. 

The accused in the firing case was identified as Shrawan Kumar, the younger brother of Badal Yadav, who was allegedly killed by Mithilesh and Surya Pratap.

The police are probing as to hos the accused managed to get inside the court with a weapon and investigating the matter further.
