Underworld don Chotta Rajan is undergoing treatment for Covid 19 at AIIMS Delhi

New Delhi, May 7

More than a month after speculations of underworld don Chotta Rajan getting treatment for Covid 19, the Delhi Police and AIIMS hospital confirmed that he is admitted in the hospital for treatment.

The rumours of Chotta Rajan's death due to Covid were put to rest by Friday evening when Tihar Jail DG confirmed that Rajan is alive and undergoing treatment for Covid at AIIMS hospital.

Chhota Rajan, 61, was admitted to hospital on April 26 after he tested positive Covid.

He has been in the high security Tihar jail in Delhi since his arrest in 2015 after deportation from Bali, Indonesia. In 2018, Chhota Rajan was convicted and sentenced to a life term in the 2011 murder of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.

Rajan, born Rajendra Nikalje, has 70 criminal cases against him related to extortion and murder in Mumbai. All the cases were transferred to the CBI and a special court was constituted to try them.

Last month, he could not be produced via video before the sessions court because of COVID-19.

Chotta Rajan is apparently a high risk Covid patient with co morbidities of diabetes, heart problem, kidney ailment, hernia and more.

The souces in police stated that his condition is stable and the reports of his death are wrong. The officials said that he was admitted in AIIMS after experiencing breathing trouble. The Tihar Jail authorities have been keeping a close watch on his condition.
