Youth from Vizag sets girl and himself on fire following a rejection

New Delhi, November 16

A youth allegedly set a girl and himself on fire in Vizag of Andhra Pradesh following a rejection of his marriage proposal.

The police and emergency services were called in who rushed them to a hospital for treatment. 

The accused has been identified as Harshavardhan P, a native of Bhupalapalle in Telangana. The girl hails from Vishakhapatnam. 

The police said that the two used to study together at a private university. They have been at their respective houses since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The girl informed the cops that she refused to accept Harshavardhan’s proposal. This enraged him. He arrived in Vizag and doused her and himself with petrol. 

The police added that both were seen screaming for help after they were doused in fire. 

The police added that the accused boy claimed that they were in a relationship. He came to the lodge on November 12 and called her to come to the lodge for discussing something related to their ‘relationship’. 

The girl suffered second-degree burn injuries. She is being administered treatment in the burn ward of the hospital. Meanwhile, the boy sustained superficial burn injuries and getting treated in the general ward. Their condition is said to be stable, officials added.
