Andhra Pradesh government appoints Kasi Reddy VR Reddy as the new acting DGP of Andhra Pradesh Police

New Delhi, February 17

The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Kasi Reddy V R Reddy as acting DGP of AP Police and transferred out the DGP Damodar Goutam Sawang with an immediate effect.

Kasi Reddy VR Reddy is the Director of Intelligence who has been given additional charge as the DGP.

The AP Government took a decision following the protests over pay in Vijaywada. The CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took a serious view of the situation, the first rally in the state opposing his government, after he took over as the CM.

The 1986 batch IPS officer, Swang has been transferred to the General Administration Department (GAD).

According to sources, CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was upset with Sawang after thousands of government employees held a protest rally in Vijayawada over Pay Revision Commission on February 3.

The AP police had not given permission to the employee unions to hold the rally, and district police were also directed by the state government not to allow demonstrators to travel to Vijayawada for the protest.

The CM had summoned Sawang with an explanation on how thousands gathered in Vijayawada in spite of no official police orders.

The officials added that the Andhra Pradesh police was told by the government about the agitating workers and sought to ensure law and order. However, the rally took place in huge numbers from people joining in from various districts at Vijaywada.

The Andhra Pradesh Home Department took a serious note of the incident and held the AP police responsible behind the lack of vigilance and action against the protestors.

Incidentally, DGP Damodar Goutam Sawang was awarded with the FICCI Smart Policing award as the Best DGP in 2020.
