The Delhi Police Dwarka District arrested two for alleged cheating related to Covid 19 pandemic. The duo sold fire extinguisher in the name of oxygen cylinder.
The accused identified as Ashutosh alias Ashu Chauhan (19) and
Ayush Ajay (22) both from VikasPuri.
The police stated that complainant, Geeta Rakesh Arora from Bindapur filed a complaint at Uttamnagar police station that two boys sold her one fire extinguisher in place of oxygen cylinder when she called for oxygen cylinder for her relative was suffering from Covid-19 disease. Her relative had acute breathing problem and low oxygen level. She also tried to admit him in hospital but she could not arrange bed in any hospital. After that she tried to arrange oxygen cylinder and came in contact with two persons, who cheated the complaint as they delivered fire extinguisher instead of oxygen cylinder, when she contacted them and asked them to return the money they stopped to receive her phone calls.
The police stated that police mounted technical surveillance and located the accused. During the interrogation, thr accused confessed to this crime and four fire extinguisher cylinders were recovered from their possession. They disclosed that during the lockdown they lost their job and made a plan to earn quick money.
The officials added that the duo knew that there is shortage of oxygen cylinders in Delhi and NCR due to Covid-19 Pandemic. Therefore, they made plan to sell fire extinguisher representing as oxygen cylinder.
The accused sold one fire extinguisher to complainant in Rs. 10000/- and stated to complainant that this is oxygen cylinder. They were trying to cheat more covid-19 patients however got caught.
The police have booked the accused under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. Five fire extinguishers were seized from them.
