New Delhi, May 27
Ahead of the G20 Summit in Delhi, the Delhi Police has imposed section 144 CrPc in Northeast Delhi to restrict any large gathering and prevent untoward incident or unlawful activity.
It is to be noted that riots had erupted in northeast district in 2020 leading to death of 53 people and injuries to more than 500 persons. The Delhi Police had registered 700 FIRs and arrested over 2000 people in the case.
In an order, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) stated that necessary steps have been taken ahead of G20 events to prevent any breach of peace.
In the order, police mentioned that there is apprehension that there could be a breach of peace due to sudden “large gathering, dharna, protest” in the area. This will affect the peace and security during the various G20 events. To avoid any such situation, the police ordered to impose Section 144 in the district for two months.
The police will also monitor protests and speeches made by leaders across the city. In case a person is found violating the norms, police said he/she will be booked under section 188 IPC.
