DU student harassed and threatned with a blade by Uber driver in Delhi

The car bound to reach Kashmere Gate bus stop had booked a Uber and the driver deviated from route and threatened to kill her when she warned him of calling police

A 19-year-old Delhi University student was allegedly harassed and threatened with a blade by a cab driver of Uber who was booked for taking her to Kashmere Gate bus stand. 

The police identified the driver as Vinod who was subsequently arrested. 

As per the case details, the girl booked a cab around 11 pm on October 5 but said that the driver began asking her questions and eventually deviated from the set route. As the car reached Vishwavidyalaya metro station, he drove towards Timarpur instead of following the map. He allegedly told her that he knew a shortcut to Kashmere Gate ISBT. But he drove the car to a deserted area. 

When she warned him to call the police, the  driver said it would be easy to “finish her off in two minutes” and threatened her with a blade. The girl had to jump out of the car and start running. The driver started to chase me. the girl reached out to a security guard outside a building and seeing that the driver drove away. 

The victim then called the North-Eastern State Helpline, she was asked to report the incident to the police. The girl then went to Model Town police station to lodge an FIR where she claimed she was waited for 7 hours for the case to be registered. 

The woman has also written to the Delhi Police Commissioner, seeing strict action against the accused.
