Five arrested including a doctor from South Delhi for allegedly making fake Covid + reports

New Delhi, April 30

The Delhi Police South District arrested five who were running a lab in Malviyanagar of Delhi and allegedly produced fake Covid reports.

The police stated that a PCR call was received at Malviya Nagar police station that some persons at  Aurobindo College Malviya Nagar GENESTRINGS lab are making fake Covid reports.

The accused were identified as Praganand alias Nihal (24) from Chiraag Delhi, Himanshu  Sharma (24) from KM Pur, Dr. Manish Kumar Singh (32) from Malviya Nagar, Satender (26) from Saket and Nikhil (22) from Saket. 

The police added that complainant Vipul Saini from Khirki told police that in April, he alongwith around 45 relatives had given their sample for Covid testing to this lab. 

A few days later, one of their family friends Rishab Shukla gave his sample to them and he was reported Covid positive, but he did not have any symptoms of COVID. On April.28, he again gave the sample to SPICE Health Laboratory where he tested negative.

On April 29, complainant Vipul Saini alongwith Himanshu Sharma and Pragyanand alias Nihal Sharma went to the Genestrings Lab and cross checked from above lab and found that the above report of Rishabh Shukla was not in the records of this lab.

Himanshu Sharma then stated that he alongwith his cousin Pragyanand used to collect home samples and give it to Dr. Manish working in Genestrings Lab without making any entry in the record of Genestrings Lab. Dr. Manish used to share the result with Pragyanand through an excel sheet and then Pragyanand would print the result on the fake letter of Genestrings Lab which was provided to him by Dr. Manish. The accused forged and cheated victims by creating the COVID results on the fake letter head of Genestrings Lab and not entering the data of COVID samples in the Lab. 

Explaining their modus operandi, police stated that accused Himanshu and Prgyananad are lab technicians who used to collect COVID samples from houses and later hand over the said samples to Dr. Manish, Application Scientist at Genestrings Lab without making an entry in the lab records. 

Dr Manish with the help of his colleagues Satender and Nikhil used to telephonically send the report to Himanshu and Prgyanand, who used to prepare the reports on their laptop using the letter head of the above named Lab. This letterhead was provided to them by Dr Manish, officials added. 

The accused were booked under Section 420, 468, 471, 34 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.The police are further investigating the case.
