One woman dead, right injured in house collapse near Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi

New Delhi, August 6

One woman died, while eight others including a police constable were rescued after two houses collapsed near Kashi Vishwanath temple ion Varanasi 

The incident took place early in the morning in the Khoya Gali Chowk area of Varanasi. The houses collapsed due to heavy rain in the city. The dilapidated houses were around 70 years old, police added. 

A team of the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), doctors, and a dog squad rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident.

Initially, nine people, including a woman police constable, were trapped under the debris. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team rescued all the trapped persons. The authorities are carrying out a thorough search to see of more persons are trapped and clear the debris. 

The injured persons have been admitted to a nearby hospital. The constable is also undergoing treatment and is stable, police said.
