Over 1000 police personnel have been awarded Police Medals on the occasion of Independence Day, 2022.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that 347 personnel awarded Police Medal for Gallantry, 87 with President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 648 personnel awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The highest number of medals were awarded to 109 CRPF personnel and 108 Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry.
Seven personnel have been awarded President’s Correctional Service Medal for Distinguished Service and 38 personnel have been given the Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service.
The decorations include 347 police medal for gallantry (PMG), 87 President's police medal for distinguished service and 648 police medals for meritorious service.
Out of 347 Gallantry medals, 204 were awarded for gallant actions in J&K, 80 for displaying bravery in Left wing extremism or naxalism and 14 for bravery in North East region. The Border Security Force (BSF) received 19 medals, Indo Tibetan Border Security Force and Sahastra Seema Bal received six medals respectively.
Among the state police forces, Maharashtra received 42 Gallantry medals and Chattisgarh received 15 medals.
A total of 1082 police officials received the prestigious medals for Gallantry, Distinguished Services and Meritorious Services.
