This New Year's Eve, Indian police on social media are sending party invitation for violators with special party performance of DJ Lockup, cupcakes in custody

New Delhi, December 31

The New Year’s Eve and strict policing has a long history yet the police this year has taken a wittier route of social media then going down the road of ‘daru and danda’ to keep the errant citizens on check.

Along with the elaborate security arrangements and night curfew during the rising cases of Omnicron variant of coronavirus, the police through Twitter are striking a chord with the social media savvy youngsters.

BW PoliceWorld looks at some interesting posts of official handles of police across the country.

With their tweet on security and action against violators on the New Year’s Eve, Assam Police takes the cake.

The Assam Police with their recent tweet on ‘this New Year’s, try not to be our guest…” has been winning the hearts on the internet.

The message that looks like an invitation card says, “This New Year’s, Try not to be our Guest, Free entry allowed for rash driver, drunk driver and other eligible violators with a special performance by DJ Lockup”.

It gets more interesting as you read, where it offers a special menu, “Copcake and other dessert items in our Custardy” with a location “Your nearest police station”.

The tweet has garnered over 2.4k likes and over 1000 retweets. The tweet is getting appreciated by many in the police department calling it a hard hitting message to violators in the wittiest possible way.

This tweet also reminds us of the last viral tweet of Assam Police on drugs in 2019 which said, “Lost 590kg of Ganja?” which went viral and even appreciated by the police forces overseas.

The Assam Police has been upping the game of social media with its many initiatives from women security to child safety, narcotic drugs and cybercrime.

The Mumbai Police was the next to tweet with a creative showing Phoebe from popular American show ‘Friends’ in a simple one line saying, “I don’t even have a pla.” encouraging us to stay indoors and celebrate the New Year’s eve.

The Maharashtra has been witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases and the state’s capital Mumbai where people head to parties, clubs, restaurants, beaches for the year end have been politely warned to stay indoors.

Another interesting tweet was posted by The Punjab Police.

It said, “This New Year’s, If you don’t want to party with us then avoid rash driving, drink and driving and other violations”.

It goes on to add, “Special Performance by Punjab Police 24/7 and in case someone tries to run your evening, call 112 and invite us”.

It further goes on to give an interesting proposition, “If you are found spoiling New Year’s Eve then Punjab Police will also give you a New Year’s gift”.

Punjab has been witnessing a series of events from sacrilege to bomb blasts. The Punjab Police is already on high alert and taking strictest steps to ensure law and order in the state and ensure drugs, unauthorized gatherings, celebrations and crowd doesn’t show up on New Year’s Eve.

The Uttar Pradesh Police referring to Omnicron rise and parties during the New Year’s Eve tweeted, “Planning to book a party place? Omnicron also has a reserved table there. #DistanceDining” informing the citizens that crowding at diner, parties and public places will not be allowed.

The Hyderabad Police while giving out a message on drunk driving incidents said in a tweet, “Naya Saal, Naya Josh, Mat Khona Hosh, Nahi Chalega Koi Sifarish, Peeke Mat Khona Hosh” (New Year, New Vigour, Don’t Consume Alcohol and Lose Your Senses). The tweet was giving out loud and clear message that every corner of Hyderabad is under a strict watch and the police are on the toes to check the violators.

The Coimbatore Police tweeted almost on the same lines of Assam Police with a little twist for road and traffic violators stating, “Exit passes chargeable as per Motor vehicle Act and Free permanent parking of your vehicle”.

The Jaipur Police posted with photos of shots glasses saying “The only shots that we approve are milk shots. Sharab se nahi doodh se kare nav varsh ki shuruwat (Start your New Year with shots of milk and not alcohol)”.

The Rajasthan Police while sensitizing the eve teasers and harassers also sent out  strict message to not use excuse of ‘being drunk’ and getting away with harassment of women on New Year’s Eve.

The Rajasthan Police’s handle has a message for eve teasing and sexual harassment during the New Year’s Eve. The message read, “Sorry I was drunk last time”. The message written in bold read, NO MORE EXCUSES. This New Year, take a resolution- Don’t harass, respect women”.

The police as against their old school style of danda (metaphor for police or police action) have taken a more humane and lighter approach to send out the message on actions against violators.

The efforts of the police are more to reach the youth with maximum impact and the wit, humour sensitizes them to ensure the New Year’s Eve is free from drunk driving, accidents, eve teasing, sexual harassment, crowding during rise of Covid cases, traffic violations and co-operation with police.
