New Delhi, September 22
Two armed women Maoists were killed during an encounter in a joint operation of the District Reserve Guard and Bastar Fighters in Dantewada district of Chattisgarh.
The two Maoists were identified as Kumari Lakhe alias Jilo Madvi (35) and Mangali Padami (25). Jilo Madvi was a Malangir area committee member and the militia command-in-chief of the area. SShe was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on her name. Padami was a member of platoon number 24 of The People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army of Maoists. She was carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakhs.
The police stated that the eams were sent on September 19 from Aranpur towards Dantewada-Sukma border to check Maoists activities. The encounter took place around in moring of Septeber 20 around four kilometres south of Nahadi camp, in which two Maoists were killed. An INSAS rifle and 12 bore rifle was found in their possession.
The police stated that Bastar Fighters is a 2,100-member force of local villagers trained by the Chhattisgarh Police to fight against Maoists.
This is the first major success for Bastar Fighters. After almost 18 months of training, they have now been inducted for operations along with experienced DRG, STF, CoBRA and CAPF teams.
