Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) Terrorist Sentenced to seven years’ rigorous Imprisonment in ABT case of Kolkata

The NIA Special Court in Kolkata convicted one Bangladeshi person.

The convicted accused Rizual Islam alias Riyaz alias Sumon (25) of Kasimnagar, Khulna in Bangladesh. He has been convicted under sections 120B, 121A, 125, 468, 471 of IPC, Sections 18 & 38 of UA(P)Act, Section 14 of Foreigners Act, 1946 and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment of seven years and fine of Rs. 36,000/-.

The NIA officials stated that the case was initially registered by STF Kolkata in November 2017 and pertaining to arrest of five members of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in Kolkata. ABT is a proscribed terrorist organization in Bangladesh. 

The officials added that four of the arrested members were Bangladeshi nationals and one is an Indian national. The NIA had re-registered on March 1, 2018 and taken over the investigation. 

The officials stated after completion of extensive investigation, NIA had filed chargesheet against five accused. Earlier two accused in this case were convicted and sentenced by Special NIA Court, Kolkata.

According to the NIA investigation, Bangladeshi members of ABT had entered India in 2016 and were conspiring to commit terrorist acts in India. The accused persons had travelled and stayed at Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai in the guise of laborers. The accused persons had tried to procure chemicals from a shop in Patna and were planning to establish hide-outs in Ranchi. They were also aiming to procure arms and ammunition in Kolkata. Several incriminating materials like map of Sealdah Railway Station, Howrah Bridge, literature on explosives and bomb-making, fake Adhaar Card, fake PAN Card were seized from the possession of the accused in the case. 

Meanwhile, the trial against the remaining two arrested charge-sheeted accused is still on.
