Delhi Traffic Police comes up with new plan to ease congestion by giving more authority to traffic constables

Instead of standing at one place, directing traffic on intersections, the constables would supervise a whole stretch assigned to them in case of a traffic jam : Delhi Traffic Police

New Delhi, May 1

The Delhi Traffic Police have deviced a new plan to ease congestion on roads in national capital due to accidents, vehicle breakdowns, or a traffic violation by exapnding the reach of the traffic constables on road. The traffic police started a trial since a month on Delhi roads to involved the constables better in traffic policing.

In three district- North, Central and East Delhi, the Delhi Traffic Police has expanded the roles of the constables that instead of standing at one place, directing traffic on intersections, the constables would supervise a whole stretch assigned to them in case of a traffic jam.

So far, the constable-level officials, deployed at intersections, used to stay at one spot. In the event of congestion, officers had to be rushed in separately based on calls made to the Traffic Control Room at Traffic Police’s headquarters at Todapur. The mobile prosecution team would then be deployed and officers would take action on the cause, and eventually help clear up the traffiic.

However, now with the new plan for effective traffic management has been introduced in  where the traffic officer deployed on the intersection will also manage the congestion. They have been given e-challan issuing machines and will move in the whole dedicated streth insread of remaining stationary at one point. The posted constable will now be able to handle the situations of accidents, jams, road construction related skirmishes on his own instead of waiting more manpower to arrive and remaining helples about the situation.

The common causes of congestion mostly range from bus breakdowns to construction activities to simply traffic violations.

The Delhi Traffic Police will study the new trial plan in detail to implement it permanently later.
