New Delhi, March 7
Following an open interaction session on social media with the citizens of Mumbai after sharing his number, the Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey announced that the force will stop towing vehicles across the city for a week.
Pandey had shared his personal number on social media for the citizens to interact. He reportedly received several complaints from the citizens on the towing of vehicles.
CP Pandey announce on Twitter, “Dear Mumbaikars I am over whelmed with your response. As a first we plan to stop towing of vehicles. Experimental to start with and final if you comply. Let me know what you think.”
The Mumbai Traffic Police have been asked to follow the new decision and not tow vehicles however an official written order on the same is not yet sent.
The excercise of no towing of vehicles in a week long exercise to see the response of citizens as well as the situation of traffic whether it shows improvement or otherwise, said officials.
The move is aimed to instil sense and awareness among the citizens to ensure conscious parking in a designated zone. The citizens welcomes the decision however also made suggestions to the CP that the errant citizens who park on the sides of the roads, shops and commercial places will continue parking on the roads and with no towing, the traffic will only get worse.
The citizens also made suggestion that while implementing the no towing exercise, the traffic police should posted on roads and traffic points should prohibit citizens to park on the roads as a the first step to no towing.
