The Speciall Cell of Delhi Police arrested the alleged accused in the Republic Day Red Fort incident where the swords where swung during the ceremony.
The accused identified as Maninder Singh alias Moni (30) was declared most wanted by police after the alleged incident. He is a resident of Sindhi Colony in Swaroop Nagar of Delhim
As per the police investigations, two swords (khandaas) were swung during the Republic Day ceremony.
Maninder was arrested from a bus stop near Pitampura. The special cell had received a tip off that Moni was going to CD Block at Pitampura.
According to the officials, the interrogation of the alleged accused Moni has revealed that the accused has reportedly disclosed to have been radicalized by seeing provoking Facebook posts of various groups. He used to frequently visit Singhu Border in Delhi and was highly motivated by speeches made by leaders, the officials said.
The policevstated that he has disclosed that he had motivated five persons of his neighborhood in Swaroop Nagar area. All six of them, riding upon bikes, had accompanied tractor rally of farmers heading from Singhu border towards Mukarba Chowk January 26. Before joining thebtractors rally, Maninder had kept two swords with him.
The officials added that as per their plan Maninder along with his five associates and other unknown armed miscreants entered in Red Fort and created mayhem there.
Maninder did sword dancing/swinging to energize the miscreants. That sword dancing had motivated already violent protesters to cause more mayhem at Red Fort by indulging in all sorts of violence against persons on duty including policemen deployed for Republic Day security duty there and damaging the historical monument of Red Fort, the officials added.
As per the case details, Moni was seen in a video swinging two swords at Red Fort with intent to motivate/radicalize and energize the violent anti-national elements indulging in brutal assault/attack on police persons on duty with swords, khandaas, iron rods, axes, barchhas, dandas etc. and damaging historical monument of Red Fort on that day.
The officials also found a long video showing him swinging swords at Red Fort on the day of the incident has in his mobile phone. The police also recovered two swords (khandaas) with the size of 4.3 feet each allegedly used in swinging at Red Fort by the accused from his residence at Swaroop Nagar.
The accused has been sent on five days remand by the Delhi Crime Branch.
