Telangana government to recruit transgenders as traffic personnel in the state

The government is also working on creating distinct uniforms for transgender recruits, with separate designs for "He/She" and "Him/Her" individuals

New Delhi, September 14

In a fist, transgender persons will be trained and recruited for traffic management in the state to aide police.

After training, the transgender troops will be deployed in Hyderabad.

The initiative was announced by Telangana government to bring in India’s first-ever transgender-specific government recruitment and social welfare program.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy told media that once transgender individuals are identified and recruited, they will undergo specialised training to assist the Hyderabad traffic police.

The introduction of transgender traffic support troops aims to ensure smoother road management while empowering an underrepresented community with stable government employment, he further told media.

The government is also working on creating distinct uniforms for transgender recruits, with separate designs for "He/She" and "Him/Her" individuals.

In addition, the terms of employment, including salaries and benefits, are being finalised to ensure equality and respect for the recruits, officials added.
