Badlapur sexual abuse accused killed in an encounter in Maharashtra

Accused Akshay Shinde died in a retaliatory firing after he snatched a policeman's gun and opened fire

New Delhi, September 24

In a development in Badlapur sexual abuse case of two kindergarten girls, the main accused Akshay Shinde died in a retaliatory firing after he snatched a policeman's gun and opened fire.

Shinde (23), a sweeper employed at the school, was arrested on August 17 for sexually abusing the two girls, aged four and five, in a school toilet, four days ago. 

The incident had triggered widespread protests with parents and other locals blocking railway lines at Badlapur railway station before the police removed them forcibly.

As per the details, Shinde was being taken from Taloja jail to Badlapur in connection with a case of unnatural sex filed by his former wife. 

The accused allegedly snatched a weapon from an officer and opened fire while he was being transported from jail in a police vehicle. He was critically injured in the firing and later died in hospital.

The encounter has triggered political debate in Maharashtra wth opposition alleging it to be a fake encounter.
