New Delhi, October 28
Delhi Police launches 'Surajsha se Vikas' programme for community police initiatives. The programme was started for North West District today for community policing “Suraksha se Vikaas - empowering the Stakeholders”, at Rashtriya Swabhiman Khel Parisar in Pitampura.
The programme showcased its various innovative schemes like Prahari- a force multiplier in the policing, Tejaswini- a women centric safety and empowerment initiative, Masoom- nurturing children with tender heart, Parvaah- caring for the elderly and Yuva- empowering youth through skill development & employment that were undertaken in district in the recent past through various act of mimes, skits, films & demos.
Delhi CP Rakesh Asthana graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Appreciating the efforts of CP Asthana reassured that community policing initiatives like these would definitely instill sense of security in the minds of citizens and improve police and public relations.
He said, “Although public criticize police in general, yet police is the first responder to any societal situation, be it a natural disaster or the deadly pandemic as we all faced during recent times, wherein Delhi Police worked hand in hand with doctors, nurses and para-medics at Covid hot spots and even at cremation areas. The police always stands by you in happy times as well as in adverse situations” he said.
He added, "When women can train shoulder to shoulder with men in the training academy they can and should work shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. When an individual becomes a police officers, there is no demarcation of male officer or woman officer. The same demarcation should not be there during their work too".
He added, "The Delhi Police has 16% women in police and I want more and more women to join police. The initiative like Tejaswini for giving important roles to women police is appreciable and also inspiring. I would suggest that the Tejaswinis who will be patrolling in daytime should be also deployed for night patrols".
Since it is not feasible to deploy police persons in every nook and corner, a self-disciplined and service-oriented society is required to assist the police to establish peace and harmony. Policing cannot achieve effectiveness without active support from society which comprises mostly of innocent persons who have nothing to do with crime. So it is important that such peace loving citizens become stakeholders of public safety and lend a helping hand to police to contain crime and criminal minded persons.
“The initiatives like Prahari, Tejasvini and YUVA have extended meaningful and noticeable contribution to basic policing”, underlined CP Asthana.
Asthana also commended the social message highlighted through the pantomime show and Nlnukkad naatak on the topics of empowering local guards- (Prahari) and drug abuse, skill development (YUVA), respectively, calling them an effective medium to connect with general public.
He noted, “As figures suggest, 80-85% offenders in crime are first time criminals, it is our endeavour to bring them back to mainstream along with those with criminal inclination to earn quick money through vocational skill development schemes like YUVA, which also provides work opportunities to youth".
The CP Delhi said that through such community initiatives, Delhi Police shall take along all sections of society to instill sense of security among citizens for a peaceful and harmonious society. The same shall be commenced all over the city to strengthen police-public interface and improve basic policing.
Asthana stressed that the more participatory the policing gets, the more effective and efficient it becomes. He further emphasized that presence of women police personnel at frontline will improve sense of confidence in weaker and vulnerable sections.
The Commissioner of Police, Delhi felicitated Praharis, YUVA stakeholders and Tejaswini women personnel. The Praharis who had helped police in bringing criminals to justice were rewarded Rs. 10,000/- each with certificates.
