EOW arrests absconding ponzi scheme fraudster who duped 80 for eight crores

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police arrested a ponzi scheme fraudster who duped 80 persons for eight crores with his alleged ponzi schemes.
Jt CP OP Mishra (EOW) stated that the accused Gopal Dalpatiwas (41) was absconding after duping the victims who were allegedly lured to invest in his company's schemes. The FIR on the fraud was registered in with the EOW in August 2017 against him under India Penal Code Sections 420, 409, 418 and120B for cheating, breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
The EOW had earlier arrested three persons namely Amarendra Prasad Singh, Bharat Kumar Rai including Chairman cum Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Das of the company.
As per the police records, Dalpatiwas was running a company names M/s Weird Infrastructure Corporation Ltd. and Weird Industries Limited. He had allegedly induced several victims through their director & representatives to invest in their small savings schemes for better return.
Elaborating on their modus operandi, the accused used to cheat the small investors in the name of doubling and tripling the invested amount on maturity. The accused persons also issued Debenture Certificates and collected huge amounts about eight crores. After collecting the huge amounts, the company closed their offices and ran away.
The EOW officials added that the accused persons with his associates had operated their illegal business from Kolkata and Delhi by opening their offices. After collecting around eight crores from victims, the alleged companies closed their offices in Kolkata and Delhi and disappeared.
The officials added that the accused had also opened different bank accounts to collect money from victims.
Dalpatiwas was absconding since three years. The police found out that he had changed his three addresses continuously and he preferred to hide in congested localities. He used to also adopt various looks to escape getting identified by police.
The officials added that Dalpatiwas is a high school pass student. Before joining the companies Weird Infrastructure Corporation Ltd and Weird Industries Ltd he was working as insurance agent.
The EOW added that the Chairman cum Managing Director of above stated companies Sanjay Kumar Das and AGM/Director Amarendra Prasad Singh approached him to work with these companies and asked him to work as Director in these companies. Sanjay Das and Amarendra Prasad Singh had reportedly asked him to sign on debenture certificate issued to the investors in these companies.
