Former corporator of Pune brutally murdered in Nana peth area

The victim Vanraj Andekar was a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar

New Delhi, September 2

A former corporator of the Pune Municipal Corporation was killed by unknown attackers in a case of suspected personal rivalry. 

The victim was identified as Vanraj Andekar, a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, 

The police stated that the incident took place around on September 1 night when the victim was in the Nana Peth area of the city. The assailants first cut the power supply in the area, attacked him with long-blade sickles, and fired five rounds at him.

The Pune police personnel rushed to the spot, and Andekar was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police have formed special police teams have been formed to trace the assailants.

The primary probe suggests enemity and the victim's family members have given a few names of suspects to police. 

Vanraj Andekar was elected as a corporator in the 2017 Pune Municipal Corporation elections. His mother, Rajashree Andekar, and uncle, Udaykanta Andekar, both served as corporators. Similarly, his sister, Vatsala Andekar, served as the former Mayor of Pune.

Vanraj's father, Suryakant Andekar, is a history-sheeter and has been accused of being involved in murder and extortion cases
