19 women commandos of SWAT in Delhi Police trained as 'markswomen'

New Delhi, July 18

Ninteen women commandos of SWAT of Delhi Police have been trained as “markswomen” who will work as frontline, accurate sharpshooter commandos of SWAT and the Delhi Police.

This is the first batch of commandos to receive such highly professional training in shooting by a trained ITBP team.

In view of the upcoming G-20 Summit, Delhi Police is committed to providing the utmost security to the visiting delegates. In this process, Special Cell has taken a step further by imparting specialized training to its female SWAT Commandos.

The first batch of 19 Women SWAT Commandos has successfully completed a 4-week "MARKSMAN" Course from the Training Team of the Indo Tibetan Border Police Force, RTC, Karera, Madhya Pradesh, during June-July 2023.

In this training course, 19 women commandos of SWAT and the Delhi Police were trained in the basic principles of firing and groomed as Marksmen. 

Constable Kiran stood first by securing 95% marks, Constable Vaishali secured second position with 77.5% marks, and Constable Kavita stood third with 75% marks. The best female SWAT Commando is now able to hit a target of 4 cm from a distance of 100 yards.

The closing ceremony at the Training Institute of Indo Tibetan Border Police Force, RTC, Karera, Madhya Pradesh, was attended by Ingit Pratap Singh, DCP/SWAT/Special Cell, and Poornima Panthri, ACP/SWAT, where Surinder Khatri, DIG/Head of the Institute, praised the women commandos for maintaining a high standard of discipline and taking keen interest in training.

Special CP (Special Cell) HGS Dhaliwal stated that becoming a "MARKSMAN/MARKSWOMAN" in itself is a great feeling for any uniformed personnel. It was a very useful professional shooting training course for women commandos that boosted their confidence and empowering them for life.
