Tragic incident of fire kills seven infants, 11 rescued in East Delhi

The fire broke out in nights hours killing seven babies at New Born Baby Care Hospital, a children' hospital in Vivek Vihar

New Delhi, May 27

In a tragic incident of fire, seven infants dies while 11 newborns were rescued from a children's hospital in Vivek Vihar area in East Delhi. 

It is suspected that the fire erupted after a blast in one of the oxygen cylinders at the facility.

The Vivek Vihar police station received a call regarding the blaze at the New Born Baby Care Hospital, as well as an adjacent building. The incident took place in night hours and 16 fire tenders were rushed to the site.The fire was doused, and the rescued infants were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. 

The officials said that the exact cause of the fire cannot be ascertained however it is being probed. 

DCP Shahdara Surendra Chaudhary stated that 12 newborns were admitted. They were all rescued and shifted to the East Delhi Advance NICU Hospital, Vivek Vihar for treatment. Out of these babies, six were declared brought dead and one died earlier. 

The seven bodies were shifted to GTB Hospital for postmortem.
