The minor was not only married off to a 35-year-old man; her in-laws forced her to have physical relations with her husband

New Delhi, May 28

The Uttar Pradesh police took action against a child marriage in Bahraich where a minor girl was married off to a 35-year-old man.

The 13-year-old girl and her mother have accused her in-laws of pressuring her to have physical relations with her husband identified as Pankaj (35).

The police arrested the girl's uncle Khelavan, Pankaj, brothers-in-law Vinod, Hanumant and father-in-law Jokhu.

In her complaint to the police, the girl stated that her father died a few years ago and she was living with her mother in Bahraich city. Due to her father’s death and weak financial condition, her uncle Khelavan would constantly put pressure on her mother to get her married.

He threatened them and got her married to a resident of Sahasalampur village named Pankaj. After her marriage, Pankaj took her to her in-laws' house. She alleged that her in-laws -- Pankaj and brother-in-law used to lock her in the house, beat her and put pressure on her to have physical relations with Pankaj.

One day, the girl fled from her in-laws' house and went back to her mother. After this, the mother and daughter reached the Superintendent of Police office who ordered action against the accused.

The police have booked an FIR under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act,
