Swati Maliwal Assault Case- Delhi Police to question Arvind Kejriwal's parents

Kejriwal's parents asked the Delhi Police to visit their son's residence in the Civil Lines area for questioning on May 23

New Delhi, May 23

The Delhi Police are all set to question parents of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his official residence in connection with the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal.

Kejriwal's parents asked the Delhi Police to visit their son's residence in the Civil Lines area for questioning on May 23.

The investigators are also expected to question Kejriwal's wife Sunita in this regard. The police had sought time from Kejriwal's family for questioning.

A day ahead, Kejriwal posted on X stating that now Delhi Police are going to question his “ill” parents.

CM Kejriwal who had been refusing to talk to media on this matter told PTI, “I expect there will be a fair investigation. Justice should be served. There are two versions of the event. Police should investigate both versions fairly and justice should be done" refusing to say more as the matter is subjudice.

Maliwal responded back immediately on X stating, “After unleashing the entire army of leaders and volunteers at me, calling me a BJP agent, assassinating my character, leaking edited videos, victim shaming me, roaming around with the accused, letting him re-enter the crime scene and tamper evidence and protesting in favour of the accused, the Chief Minister, in whose drawing room I was beaten up, has finally said that he wants free and fair investigation in the matter. Irony died a thousand deaths. I don’t buy this one bit”.

As per the case details, Maliwal was allegedly assaulted by Kejriwal's PA Bibhav Kumar at Kejriwal's residence on May 13. After three days of the incident, Maliwal had filed a complaint with police. Her medial report had shown bruises and injuries on her body. Kumar was later arrested by Delhi Police on May 18 and also summoned by National Commission of Women for questioning on the incident. Kumar had also filed a complaint with Delhi Police on fake allegations of Maliwal.

The incident sparked a political storm in the country.
